Our School Governors

Derek Sansom - Chair of Governors
Aged 52 recently taking early retirement
from HSBC/Midland Bank after almost 34 years employment with last
position being Branch manager at the Boldmere Branch.
I joined Boldmere Junior School Governing
Body in June 1997. After 'learning the basics' I became Chair
in September 1998. Since then I have enjoyed the position feeling
more part of the school. During this period Ofsted and Birmingham
LEA Audits have proved the strength of the school.

Jill Boden - Clerk to the Board
of Governors
I enjoy my role because the group works
towards maintaining and improving opportunities for children in
the Boldmere area.
Having had a 25 year career in education
it is so rewarding to be involved in such a happy and successful
school with such a committed and supportive staff.

Julie Jemson
Married with two children, one child in
year 5 and one child in year 2.
As a school governor I sit on various committees
including; finance and staffing to site maintenance. My other
role is that of the special needs governor, a position that brings
me into direct contact with the children. I have watched classes
and seen how children with special needs are helped and been overwhelmed
by the children's ability to work alongside in a supportive role
with their peers who may have a special need. Each term I spent
time with Miss Little, the senco or teacher, whose role is to
co-ordinaate and ascertain the needs of each individual child.
Along with all the teachers I attend meetings from outside agencies
in order to gain knowledge about various conditions and learning
problems children may encounter.

I became a governor for Boldmere Junior
School twelve months ago. My year has been extremely interesting.
Particularly my time on the curriculum committee.
The children are a terrific group and standards
are excellent. Communication between Governors, Staff, Parents
and Children is second to none.

I have been a governor for many years,
each time I come to the end of my term I am persuaded to stay
on. I never cease to be impressed by the enthusiasm and commitment
of the staff. I am delighted to remain involved.

I wanted to be a Governor at Boldmere Junior
School as I have lived in the area all my life (I went to Boldmere
Secondary School) I am on the Sites and Curriculum Committees
and have only just started.
I have enjoyed my time so far as the rest
of the Governors are a friendly bunch and we are achieving a lot!!

As a LEA Governor I believe it important
to be involved in the community and Boldmere Junior School is
a perfect example of a school with dedicated staff committed to
raising standards of all the children.
The level of communication between staff
and governors is excellent and there is an open and friendly atmosphere
at all Governors meetings. There are exciting plans for the future
and I am pleased to be a part of this school.

I was rather worried about becoming a School
Governor. I wasn't sure what it entailed and I was uncertain as
to whether I would be of any help.
Fortunately the school is so well run,
by Diana and the teachers, that instead of a worry it has been
a joy to come to the meetings and to see what individual teachers
do. Also I love to see the work that the very talented pupils
have done and which is displayed on the walls etc...

I have been a school governor for 3 years.
I am a parent governor, I have one child at Boldmere Junior School.
During my time as a governor I have been able to take part in
a number of different roles and at present I hold the position
of Vice Chair.
It has been a very interesting 3 years
and I have learnt alot about how the school is run. I feel that
being a parent governor helps me play an important part in the
education of my child instead of just being a 'normal' parent
